Senior Technology: “Websites for Seniors”
by Kevin Ganton, Administrator

As we all know or should know, the wonderful World WideWeb has something for everyone, especially for our senior population. We have searched through the web to find some interesting websites that can help make the lives of senior people and the people that care for them a little bit easier.

The following is a list of websites that seniors or their caretaker can use everyday:

www.tadalist.com is a website that is dedicated to helping people create and maintain a to-do list. It's an easy to use website that allows people to remember things related to grocery lists, payments, pills to take, ect, And there is nothing to download.

www.mypunchbowl.com allows you to create an online invitation, organize a party, keep track of people that rsvp to the party, send e-mail invitations, provide interactive maps showing directions to the event, and offer a place for comments. These easy to use website make planning events easy for any senior person while enabling them to keep track of everything.

www.xdrive.com offes around 5gigabytes of online storage for free. You are able to store anything from music, pictures, documents, excel sheets power points, adobe documents, ect. online. This will allow seniors to keep all of their documents saved and accessible anytime. When traveling seniors won't have to worry about carrying anything with them, they can just access their information from any computer with online access.

www.crossloop.com and www.gotomypc.com are two websites that once installed on a computer will enable a senior's family to access their computer at anytime to help troubleshoot, shoe them documents, or just update the computer with new and interesting information. This is a great for a senior who is not very computer savvy and is always calling up for help with their computer.

www.plaxo.com and www.hotmail.com (with the creation of a free e-mail account) allow seniors to update and maintain any of their contact lists and personal information that they have on each person. The Plaxo system allows people to send emails to your contacts to update your address book. The hotmail system is very similar to the outlook database feature, allowing you to search for, and email contacts, very easily. Both websites allow you to view your contact information from any computer that has internet connection.

www.quilterscache.com and www.craftown.com offer examples, instructions, and ideas on quilting or crafting. Here seniors can look for inspiration for their next project.

www.aarp.com is a website dedicated solely to seniors. Here seniors can find information regarding all aspects of their life including politics, how to invest, what insurance to buy, and even how to join groups dedicated to pushing senior issues in local state and national government policies.

www.garden.org offers seniors who love to garden a place to seek advice, find information on different plants, and get new ideas on how to develop their own gardens.

These are just a few of the many websites that are out there that can make the lives of seniors and their caregivers a lot easier and fulfilling.
